We know Prague 8 up close

Vlaďka has been an opposition councillor for eight years now and has known Prague 8 since birth. She lives in Ládví and is interested in urban development, public space, the environment, culture and schools. She studied veterinary medicine and journalism. She is now editor-in-chief of the VědaVýzkum.cz portal. For several years she managed research projects at the Faculty of Mathematics and Physics of Charles University, and before that she was in charge of communications at the Science, Research and Innovation Section of the Office of the Government. She sat on the preparatory committee for the referendum against gambling halls in Prague 8, initiated the painting of the Ládví underpass, co-organised the summer cinema at Palmovka and stopped a fast-food outlet being built in the middle of Střelničná.

Michal was drawn to standing for office by the unbearable traffic on V Holešovičkách and Zenklova in Prague 8, together with the decaying public space. With his neighbours he founded the Holešovičky pro lidi association, which brings the local community to life and actively changes the surroundings. Michal is an investment banker by profession and studied international relations and economics in Prague, Washington, Budapest and Bologna.

Barbora ran the international school cooperation programmes at DZS (MŠMT), co-founded the English-language outdoor nurseries Vyšehrad Monsters and Libeň Monsters, and works as a project manager and fundraiser at Elementy - asociace elementárního vzdělávání v přírodě. She leads a hiking group at Sokol Libeň. She translates books from Finnish. As a councillor she focuses mainly on schools and family policy in Prague 8, and she sits on the school boards of ZŠ Bohumila Hrabala and ZŠ Na Šutce.

Matouš grew up in Prague 8. While other parts of Prague have moved forward in recent years, he thinks Prague 8 has often been marking time. That is why, as a member of the Green Party, he is standing with neighbours and friends from 8žije. Professionally he works in education, culture, media and public participation. He believes a city should above all be a good place for everyday life - safe for children first of all, affordable for families and seniors, and open to people who want to be part of what happens around them. That takes a town hall which listens to residents and genuinely involves them in decisions.

Tomáš worked as a journalist for twenty years and left in protest at Andrej Babiš's takeover of the media. In 2013 he joined the Bohnice Psychiatric Hospital as a lawyer; today he is a lawyer in independent practice. On the council he focuses on schools, municipal property and housing. He lives in Bohnice.

Ondřej trained as a nuclear engineer, but currently leads a research team at the HiLASE laser centre. In the past he pushed for the construction of a new scout clubhouse in Bohnice. His key topics are involving the public in the town hall's decisions and caring for the way our district looks.

Mária decided to stand after several years of fighting the town hall for safe pedestrian crossings and a more dignified public space with local amenities in Čimice, where she lives with her family. In her native Trnava, during her studies in Barcelona and on her other travels, she saw what a functional and welcoming public space looks like and how much it matters to people. She is a graduate of the Faculty of Education at TU in Trnava (Slovakia) and of the EASD Serra i Abella design school in Barcelona, and she currently coordinates education programmes for children and young people focused on sustainable transport and inclusive public space.
