Quality of life often comes down to seemingly small things. Whether you can push a buggy without dodging broken paving. Whether there’s a place to sit in the shade. Whether children can use a playground after school, and whether you can pick up your shopping close to home. These everyday needs are the starting point for our programme.
We want to allocate CZK 20 million a year to pavement repairs. We’ll focus on safer pedestrian crossings, particularly near schools, and make streets easier to navigate for everyone. We’ll step up cleaning around waste and recycling containers, add more litter bins and provide attractive, ad-free benches by the end of 2027. In each of our eight neighbourhood areas, we’ll draw up plans to revitalise a key square or street, including new planting.
Our approach to housing and education is just as practical. We want to refurbish vacant council flats and make them available to teachers, municipal police officers, healthcare workers and families looking for affordable homes. Our goal is for every three-year-old and every school-age child in Prague 8 to have a place at a nearby nursery or school by 2028. We’ll also support school psychologists, healthy meals and outdoor learning, and establish Prague 8’s first council-run forest nursery.
We want our residential neighbourhoods to offer more opportunities to get together and enjoy local life. We’ll support shops and services within easy reach, cultural activities for all ages and small grants for community events. School sports grounds should also be open in the afternoons and at weekends. We want more things for teenagers to do, as well as an adventure playground where children can build their own dens.
What’s planned for your neighbourhood? Our programme includes a dedicated action plan for each of Prague 8’s eight neighbourhood areas. Each has eight concrete commitments and a named local representative. Here’s a taste of what’s inside:
- Čimice: safer crossings on Čimická Street and a circular walking route with a deck overlooking Čimický Pond.
- Bohnice housing estate: completing the park by Krakov and building a skatepark at Podhajská pole.
- Staré Bohnice: restoring Koztoprtský Pond and improving walking and cycling connections to the surrounding countryside.
- Kobylisy: a cleaner, more welcoming area around the metro station, repaired playgrounds and plans to renovate the Stírka outdoor swimming pool.
- Ládví: a safe, accessible crossing on Střelničná by the Štěpničná stop, and new trees along the street.
- Holešovičky and Troja: better protection from traffic noise and air pollution, safeguarding architecturally valuable villas and completing Dlážděnka Park.
- Libeň: revitalising Palmovka, adding shade to playgrounds and planning improvements to Elsnicovo Square, with seating beside the Rokytka.
- Karlín: more nursery and school places, a focus on the new Rohan primary school and additional trees along Křižíkova Street.
Making these plans happen takes a town hall that listens and responds. Our candidate for mayor, Václav Stránský, together with councillors in the district’s executive and our neighbourhood representatives, will hold regular meetings with residents, respond to suggestions and publish their priorities and results. We want you to know who is handling your request and what happens next. A participatory budget will also give you a direct vote on improvements in your local area.
