The meeting with you at Čimická Kozlovna was important for us. It was not a formal event where a few points are presented and everyone goes home. The point was to be in direct contact with the people who live in Čimice, to listen to them and to talk about the concrete things that affect everyday life.
And that is exactly what happened.
Čimice is one of the places where it makes most sense to deal with problems on the spot. Not from a map. Not from behind a desk. But with the people who know every junction, every dangerous route and every place that has lost its function in recent years.
Disappearing local amenities
One of the main topics was the demolition of Albert and the related loss of local amenities.
To some it may sound like an ordinary change in the area. For local people it is a very practical matter. When a shop, services or other basic facilities disappear, it does not just mean a different building. It means longer journeys, worse accessibility and less everyday comfort for the people who live there.
The district should not merely watch passively as local amenities vanish from individual neighbourhoods. It should actively defend the principle that Prague 8 develops not only according to what is economically most advantageous for landowners, but also according to what its residents need.
The Prague Ring Road and its impact on Čimice
Another strong topic was the planned construction of the Prague Ring Road.
Transport projects of this scale cannot be judged only by lines on a map. Their real impacts on specific neighbourhoods have to be addressed: noise, emissions, traffic flow, safety, links to local transport and the quality of life in the area.
Čimice must not be a place where major transport decisions simply “somehow show up”. They must be heard in good time and clearly. And the district should be an active advocate for local residents in this respect.
Pedestrian safety
Pedestrian safety was another topic that came up repeatedly.
This is a topic that often looks like a detail until something happens. Crossings, pavements, the speed of cars, visibility at junctions or safe routes for children to school are not cosmetic touches. They are the basic conditions for normal life in the city.
A good town hall is not recognised by how many problems it defers to a future reconstruction. It is recognised by whether it can also look for interim, practical solutions that can be carried out quickly.
